Bangkok Don Muang International Airport information
Don Muang Airport is the former Bangkok International Airport, also known as Don Muang International Airport. The airport was officially opened on March 27, 1914 as a Royal Thai Air Force airport. In 1924 Don Muang Airport commenced on commercial operation too with the arrival of the first commercial KLM flight to Don Muang. Before the closure of Don Muang Airport the airport was the operational center of Thai Airways International and has served most air traffic in Thailand with more than 80 airlines, 160,000 flights, 30 million passengers and 700,000 tonnes of cargo per year. Don Muang was the 18th busiest airports in the world, and second in Asia based on total volume of passenger arrivals and departures. On 28 September 2006, Don Muang Airport closed for renovations and was replaced by the new Suvarnabhumi Airport as the main international airport of Bangkok. After the renovations Don Muang airport began operating again on March 25, 2007 for some domestic flights only while there are still two international terminals and one domestic terminal. Currently, the new Suvarnabhumi airport is at full capacity and most low-cost airlines are moving operations to Don Muang. Airasia has moved all Bangkok operations to Don Muang in 2012.
When you land or take off at Don Muang airport you will notice a complete golf course is located between the two runways, without any fences separating the golf course from the runway.
