Indonesia AirAsia X faces big hurdles
The Indonesian offshoot of AirAsia X has the potential to be a major player in the long haul budget carrier market within the region, but several regulatory issues stand in its way.
In its latest analysis report, Centre for Aviation (CAPA) said the biggest hurdle faced by Indonesia AirAsia X (IAAX) is the EU blacklist on Indonesian-registered airlines.
"œJapan and South Korea typically do not permit the launch of services from EU-blacklisted airlines." This is a setback as Northeast Asia is expected to provide a big chunk of IAAX's revenue.
But a big advantage IAAX has is the licensing approval recently received from Australia, which allows the budget carrier to start Bali-Melbourne flights twice weekly from next Wednesday, March 18 "“ with a planned increase to five times weekly from May 1.
