This city is the capital of Surat Thani Province and located about 685 kilometers from Bangkok. There are many incredible natural beautiful sceneries you can see in this city. Surat Thani History

The name Surat Thani means City of Good People. This name was given by King Vajiravudh or also known as Rama VI. The city was formerly the capital of the Srivijaya Kingdom. When the kingdom of Srivijaya was still in power, the city was divided into three major parts, the City of Chaiya, Tha Thong and Khiri Rat. Until finally King Rama VI moved Tha Thong City to Ban Do. Khao Sok National Park is a national park you can visit in this city. This place offers a beautiful natural landscape around it besides various protected rare flora and fauna. Not far from the city there is also Namuang Safari Park or rather about 83 kilometers to the northeast of Surat Thani town center. For the temple, there is Wat Phra Yai, located approximately 94 kilometers to the northeast of the city center where you can find a huge Buddha statue here. While in Samui Butterfly Garden, you can find an extensive collection of preserved butterflies. This place is located about 81 kilometers to the northeast of the city center.

One destination for the tourists who arrive to this city is the island of Koh Samui. The island offers many interesting tourism sites. One example is Lamai Beach in Koh Samui, Surat Thani Province, or about 87 kilometers from downtown Surat Thani. The beach is usually visited by tourists both local and foreign. There is also one of Koh Phangan Island that is famous for its beautiful white sand in Surat Thani. There is also Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach you can visit for a swim, sunbathe or dive. This beach is located in the northeast of Surat Thani town center.

Things to eat

One of the culinary menu most sought here is Gang Keow Wan. The food is better known as the Green Thai Curry, contains green curry paste, bamboo shoots, eggplant and sliced meat served with coconut milk. While Gaeng Daeng or also known as Thai Red Curry also included as one of the city's favorite foods. You may also taste Kao Na Phet, a roasted duck and rice and served complete with duck soup. Tom Yum Goong is still in high demand in this city. This food is a typical Thai soup with shrimp and mushrooms as the main ingredients.
